All Asher College programs are offered through Hybrid Learning – a blend of on-campus and remote study. Students learn from home or anywhere they have access to a computer and internet.

Asher College’s Hybrid Learning includes live video events, webinars, one-on-one virtual meetings, discussion boards, and other virtual solutions. The hybrid model has an on-campus attendance obligation during each week of a student’s program. Students are provided with any physical course material needed prior to beginning a course and have access to all lesson plans and digital course material for any currently enrolled course or previously taken course through the student portal.

Every Asher College campus is open 6 days per week, Monday through Saturday. Students can choose what hours they want to come to campus.

What Makes Asher Different from Community College?

Where Community Colleges often offer a broad education, Asher College focuses on practical training and highly specific career-ready skills. Asher College programs are designed for students who want to enter the workforce quickly. Asher Colleges are smaller than most Community Colleges. Students at Asher may receive more personal attention and individual support than students at larger institutions.

Some Key Features of Asher College vs a Typical Community College

  • Smaller Class Size
  • More Personalized Support
  • Shorter Programs (7-19 Months*)
  • Focus on Career Specific Training
  • Custom Schedules

All Asher College programs include practical, hands-on training.

Community College can be a good choice for individuals who may want to transfer to a 4-year University or who are less sure of exactly what field they want to pursue. Asher College is a strong fit for individuals who want shorter-term, career-focused education taught through hands-on learning and practical experience.

History

Asher College opened its first campus, known then as TechSkills of Sacramento, in 1998. The school’s founders, Michael Dourgarian and David Vice, recognized a skills gap between what employers were looking for and what current job seekers had. They shared a common vision and set out to provide in-demand skills to those who were looking to improve life for themselves and their families.

Since the college’s start, Asher has used a blended learning method, to allow a flexible approach for adult learners who want to enter the workforce quickly while still being able to complete their education. This has proven successful for the thousands of Asher graduates currently working in their communities.

Members of Asher’s staff have served on numerous boards, received many awards, volunteered in their communities, and celebrate the success of their students daily.

Niko Dennis, Computer Operations Security Specialist Graduate - Sacramento Campus 2025
I've always been passionate of IT. I was looking online at different ways to learn, teaching myself and going to the library, just trying to learn the ins and outs. I finally found a program where they're able to teach me and provide me the certificates that I was looking to get. I graduated Asher College with a computer operations security specialist degree and got my Security+ certificate. I’m excited to move on to my future.
LaTonya Fletcher, Medical Records Specialist Graduate - Sacramento Campus, 2025
"I've always been in the medical field, but I always have to refresh. This is like a refresher course for me; I have my AS in medical billing already. I heard about Asher College through the Department of Rehab and I'm graduating from the medical records specialist program. My favorite part of the program is being able to do your own hours and work around your schedule. I'm looking forward to working in health information management.
Kristalyn Joy Arenas, Computer Operations Security Specialist Graduate - Sacramento Campus 2025
After serving active duty for over 9 years, I decided to go back to school. Somebody from base recommended the school. The program I did was an associate's degree in computer operations and security. During my time here, I was able to receive a certificate for CompTIA A+. Thank you to the whole Asher team for allowing me to be a part of your community. After I graduated, I managed to get a job at McClellan Air Base and I am going to start as a help desk Level 1 support. I’m super excited for this opportunity.
Janeane Milazzo, Medical Billing & Coding Graduate - Sacramento Campus 2025
I’ve always wanted to get in the medical field, but I’m not a nurse. I decided I wanted to go back to school and found Asher online. I learned a lot, and I get emotional doing this because I'm the first person in my family to graduate college. To somebody who thinks it's too late for them to come back to school: it's never too late. You can do it. If I can do it, you can do it.
Brianna Frausto, Medical Billing & Coding Graduate - Sacramento Campus 2025
I like medical coding and billing mainly for the coding part because it’s like a puzzle; you have to figure out where it fits. I thought that was really fun and challenging . Honestly, it was challenging—I think that’s what I liked about it the most. Be prepared to be challenged because it’s going to be a good thing. It’s going to make you better over time.
Avery West, Medical Billing & Coding Graduate - Sacramento Campus 2025
I was looking for my next step right after getting out of the military. My background in the Air Force was that I was a medic and so medical billing and coding was the administrative part of continuing on. It was really a great fit. My favorite part of the program was the independence that you get from the flexible schedule. I was able to come in on the days of the week that worked for me and at my own time.
Ervin Reed, Associate of Applied Science in Computer Specialist and Networking
I couldn't have done it without Asher. The instructors are brilliant. They have no problems answering any questions... I can't convey how grateful I am for Asher College coming into my life.
Nancy Ozsvath, Microsoft Office Business Graduate
Really, really, really grateful. Tremendous staff at Asher College. Everyone has been so helpful and supportive... we’re like a big family. It’s been one of the best experiences of my life...
Daylene Perry, Medical Records Specialist
I visited five different schools before I chose Asher because I figured Asher was the perfect fit. My favorite class at Asher would have to be Career Success... If you have the chance to go to Asher, do it!
