Frequently Asked Question

Cybersecurity and IT are closely connected, not competing paths. Many cybersecurity professionals begin in IT roles to build foundational knowledge before specializing. Starting in IT can give you broader flexibility and a stronger long-term foundation.

Cloud and Computer Security Specialists help protect computer systems, networks, and cloud environments from security threats. Their work may include monitoring systems, identifying vulnerabilities, managing access controls, responding to security incidents, and helping organizations follow security best practices.

Common entry-level certifications include CompTIA Tech+, CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+. These certifications help build foundational knowledge and demonstrate technical competencies to employers.

A four-year degree is not always required to work in IT. Many employers value skills, certifications, and hands-on ability. Career-focused IT training programs help students build job-ready skills without spending years in school.
