In fact, the United States Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports that employment in healthcare occupations is growing at a rate of 15 percent! This incredible growth is significantly faster than the average growth for all occupations, and will add more jobs to the American economy than any of the other occupational groups. According to the BLS, the growth in the healthcare sector is projected to add about 2.4 million new jobs by 2029! (BLS 2021)

At Asher, healthcare training programs are focused, comprehensive, and designed to prepare students for immediate entry-level employment. 

Asher offers administrative healthcare training programs to prepare students for careers including Medical Records Specialist, Health Information Specialist, or Medical Biller/Coder. There is a growing demand for these administrative health professionals nationwide, and according to the U.S. BLS, there were over 340,000 medical records and health information technology positions nationwide in 2019. The field is projected to continue to grow at a rate of 8% annually from 2019-2029, adding approximately 29,000 more jobs (BLS 2021). At Asher, the administrative healthcare career training programs teach students. Students may choose between the following programs: 

The Medical Records Specialist program prepares graduates for administrative careers by teaching students how to answer telephones, greet patients, update and fill patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, handle correspondence, schedule appointments, arrange for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handle bookkeeping. The Medical Records Specialist program can be completed in 6 months, and graduates receive a Medical Records Specialist Certificate. Graduates are also prepared to test for the National Healthcareer Association’s Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and/or the Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS).

The Health Information Specialist program prepares students for careers in health information technology by teaching students how to collect, maintain, and analyze health information, as well as important skills ranging from medical front office, to advanced billing and basic coding. The Health Information Specialist program can be completed in 9 months, and graduates receive a Health Information Specialist Certificate. Graduates are also prepared to sit for professional certifications including  the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), the Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS), and the Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS) from the National Healthcareer Association. Students also may choose to pursue their Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree by completing another 6 months of General Education courses. 

The Medical Billing and Coding program prepares students for careers as medical biller/coders by teaching comprehensive medical coding and billing procedures, medical terminology, and medical billing software. The Medical Billing and Coding program can be completed in 10 months, and graduates receive a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Certificate. Graduates are also prepared to sit for professional certifications including the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), the Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS), and the Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS) from the National Healthcareer Association, and the CPB-Certified Professional Biller, or the CPC-A Certified Professional Coder and  from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Students also may choose to pursue their Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree by completing another 6 months of General Education courses. 

Asher College also offers training for students interested in pursuing careers as pharmacy technicians. Pharmacy technicians work hand-in-hand with licensed pharmacists, performing supportive administrative and clinical tasks. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, there were 422,300 pharmacy technicians employed nationwide in 2019, and there are projected to be an additional 15,200 jobs created in this field over the 2019-2029 decade (BLS 2021). At Asher, the Pharmacy Technician program prepares students for these careers by teaching how to recognize the classifications of drugs and scheduled drugs, how to fill prescriptions, and how to adhere to HIPAA privacy regulation. The Pharmacy Technician program can be completed in 11 months, and graduates receive a Pharmacy Technician Certificate. Graduates are also prepared to sit for the nationally recognized Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), and will be prepared to obtain their state licenses in the state in which they’ve been training: Nevada, California or Texas.
