Supporting Children and Families in our Dallas, Texas Community
Asher College – Dallas Partners with the Book Angel Foundation
At Asher College, it’s important to us to contribute to our community. Our mission is to train students for the careers that are in high demand in their own communities, so they can work where they want to live, and be of service to the communities they call home. Each of our three campuses strives to be a positive neighbor, and to give back in any way we can. At Asher College – Dallas, we are proud to support the Book Angel foundation, an amazing non-profit foundation dedicated to expanding childhood literacy and supporting families’ basic needs.
How Asher College is Supporting the Book Angel Foundation!
Founded by Ms. Kathy Hopkins-Davis, aka Ms. Kathy, the Book Angel foundation is dedicated to expanding childhood literacy by putting books into the hands of children who otherwise might not have access to reading. As a kindergarten teacher, Ms. Kathy realized how many children were entering school without basic literary skills. She made the connection between early childhood literacy and academic success in the school years, and realized that by giving children access to books at a young age, a lifelong learner could be born.
Ms. Kathy realized if we help our children become successful during the early years of their academic journey, that momentum and success will continue into higher education, and then their adult lives. Childhood literacy has real implications for lifelong success. She formed the Book Angel non-profit foundation in order to provide programs and networks that put books into children’s hands at an early age, and empower parents with the knowledge that they are their child’s first teacher, equipping them to read, talk, and teach their own children in order to help them be prepared to learn when they enter the classroom.
The Book Angel foundation is dedicated to eliminating childhood illiteracy, but they do much more than connect children with books. While Book Angel collects donations of books, they also receive donations of household goods, furniture, clothing, cosmetics, hygiene products, and food. Book Angel then distributes these basic-needs goods back into the community, providing families with the necessities they need. To date, Book Angel has been able to collect and distribute over 160,000 books and over $1.5 million dollars worth of school supplies, teacher resources, appliances, home goods, medical supplies, and food.
Asher College – Dallas is proud to support and partner with this exceptional community organization! Campus Director Anthony Fisher was excited to describe the partnership, saying, “This non-profit is amazing. Not only do they help children in underprivileged communities read but they also will supply you with supplies, food, and even furniture to help you. Asher College is pleased, very pleased, to be partnering with them. We think it’s going to be a great opportunity for our students and our community.”
