Administrative healthcare workers are integral to the functioning of our healthcare system. These healthcare professionals perform critical administrative duties, freeing up doctors, nurses, and other medical workers for clinical duties. As an administrative healthcare worker, you can play an important role in our medical system, supporting clinical healthcare workers and working directly with other medical professionals to deliver patients with the highest level of care.
At Asher College, students interested in entering the healthcare field can choose between three different career training programs. All programs are designed to be completed in a short amount of time, and offer flexible schedules with classes during the day, evening, and even on the weekends. Students learn under the guidance of professional instructors, with limited class sizes to ensure each student receives individualized attention and support. All programs combine classroom instruction with practical skills training, so graduates are thoroughly prepared to hit the ground running in their new careers.
Which administrative healthcare career training program is right for you?
Medical Records Specialist
Designed to be completed in as little as 6-8 months! Medical Records Specialists are responsible for a broad range of tasks to keep hospitals, clinics, and other types of medical facilities running smoothly. With Asher’s Medical Records Specialist program, you’ll learn how to perform these essential duties, including answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filling out patient medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handling bookkeeping.
Graduates of this program will receive a Medical Records Specialist program certificate, and will be prepared to test for professional certifications through the National Healthcareer Association, including the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) or the Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS).
Health Information Specialist
Designed to be completed in as little as 9-12 months! The Health Information Specialist program builds upon the skills taught in the Medical Records Specialist program by incorporating additional instruction on advanced billing and basic coding. In the Health Information Specialist program, you’ll learn how to collect, maintain, and analyze health information, while adhering to HIPAA, Federal and State regulations concerning confidentiality in the medical field. You’ll also learn how to utilize healthcare software applications, and record and manage insurance billing and reimbursement activities.
Graduates of this program will receive a Health Information Specialist program certificate, and will be prepared to test for professional certifications through the National Healthcareer Association, including the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), the Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS), and the Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS).
Interested students can earn their Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Health Information degree by taking six additional General Education classes (4 weeks each). AAS degree courses include Critical Thinking or Psychology, Business Communication, Business Math, Introduction to Business, Principles of Management or Leadership, and American Government. Students in Nevada also complete a short Nevada Constitution course. Obtaining your AAS degree shows potential employers you are ready for supervisory or management responsibilities.
Medical Billing and Coding
Designed to be completed in as few as 11-14 months! The Medical Billing and Coding program is a comprehensive program with a more specialized scope in medical coding. In Asher’s Medical Billing and Coding program, you’ll learn medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, and medical billing.
Graduates of this program will receive a Medical Billing and Coding program certificate, and will be prepared to test for professional certifications, including the National Healthcareer Association’s Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS), and Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS), and the AAPC’s Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC-A)
Students in the Medical Billing and Coding program also have the option to take six General Education courses (4 weeks each), in order to earn their Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Medical Billing and Coding degree. AAS degree courses include Critical Thinking or Psychology, Business Communication, Business Math, Introduction to Business, Principles of Management or Leadership, American Government. Students in Nevada also complete a short Nevada Constitution course. An Associate degree can demonstrate to potential employers that you are ready for supervisory or management responsibilities based on the additional investment that you have made in your education.
