Any success story begins with the decision to succeed
This is Terrell Anderson. He knows that any success story begins with the decision to succeed. He worked hard and did just that. Read his story below.
Recently I officially celebrated my 1 year anniversary here at Asher College, studying to have a Degree as a Computer Specialist in Network Technology. I still have more to go but I thought I would share a little of my experience here so far……….
Someone (ok..ok it was my Mom) once told me when you walk with purpose, sooner or later you collide with your destiny! For me that was January 23, 2017, when I walked through the doors of Asher College with the intent of completing Network Technology disciplines. I was not sure what I was doing nor was I sure what to make of this new experience; One thing that I was for sure of is that I was uncomfortable and out of my comfort zone. I believe the instructors/staff were not too sure what to make of me either. The instructors/staff took a chance on me and went above and beyond what is required of them to ensure I had the all the tools I needed to make re-entry into higher learning easier and have a successful outcome.
Fast forward to today, I have quickly risen in the ranks, by maintaining a 4.0 GPA, achieving 6 certifications in the IT field. I have, under my belt, the coveted certifications… CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Windows 7 Configuration and CompTIA Linux+!
In February, I started on my Associate’s degree and I have the honor of being a leader in the PC clinic, working to resolve and solve customer’s computer issues ranging from malfunctions, viruses, installations. I am a part of the Student Leadership Team (SLT) and assist new students prepare and adjust to the new challenges college life can bring, especially if they have not been in school for a while.
I have been given the opportunity to showcase my talents by participating in an exceptional externship program for the Apple Project. I unexpectedly became the Manager of the Apple Project and now I have the opportunity to supervise and help shape the skills of the students involved with the project. I personally review the Apple material to prepare them for what is going on at during the course of the day and project upcoming learning opportunities for the week.
I was able to accomplish this, thanks to Asher College, while I am still attending classes!
What a difference a year makes! A year ago I was desperate to reinvent myself. Now I’m a semi sleep-deprived college student, who lugs a textbook-filled backpack around town sometimes evening pulling all-nighters, struggling with to earn each certificate, with the test score that fits in with goals I have set for myself, keeping close tabs on my 4.00 grade-point average, being part of the SLT, working an externship and supervising other ASHER students.
My challenges have been numerous; but I’ve overcome so many of them. I grappled with earning a high school diploma later in life, because having a diploma was important to me and was part of the goals I set for myself.
So much is still at stake with my degree! I hope one day to become a IT Manager at a fortune 500 Company.
After working in the IT field for about a year, I hope to return to Asher College to become an IT Engineer or Database Manager making six figures and then one day contemplate getting my Masters’ Degree in the IT field, but for now I need to do this and complete everything I started.
It has added a lot of stress, I’ve had my ups and downs because of school, but I want to be successful for myself as well as for the people who helped me out along the way.I don’t want them to feel like they wasted their time.
I can’t wait to see what successes 2018 holds for me and my fellow students. I dream of one day walking across that stage in cap and gown and graduating, which represents the ultimate success in my life so far. It’s only the beginning, thanks to the support and education here at Asher College.
