If you are a veteran, it’s important to know there are several types of benefits available to you to help pay for your post-military education and career training. The federal government offers various types of bills in support of servicemembers and veterans; one program that is currently available due to the COVID-19 pandemic is the Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP). Since 2012, the VRRAP program has provided funding for education and training programs approved under the GI Bill and Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC) that lead to high-demand jobs. Eligible programs include associate degrees, non-college degrees, and certificate programs. The current round of VRRAP funding has been made available due to the challenges veteran students face during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At Asher College, we have been approved by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs to provide funding for eligible students through the VRRAP program.

To be eligible for this program, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • At least 22 years old, but not older than 66, and
  • Unemployed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and
  • Not rated as totally disabled because you can’t work, and
  • Not enrolled in a federal or state jobs program

It’s also important to note that students cannot receive VRRAP benefits at the same time as they are receiving unemployment benefits (including CARES Act benefits). Also, in order to be eligible for VRRAP, a veteran student cannot be eligible for any of the following: Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E), Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA), Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

If you’re eligible for VRRAP, you may be able to receive up to 12 months of tuition and fees, and a monthly housing allowance based on Post-9/11 GI Bill rates. The VRRAP program is a very special kind of veteran’s assistance currently available because of the COVID-19 pandemic and will only be available until December 11, 2022. The federal government will stop making payments after 12/11/22, or when they reach either the $386 million funding limit or the 17,250 participant limit. This funding is limited, so if you are interested and believe you are eligible, you should contact Asher’s Admissions Office. From there, they will determine if we have a program to help you meet your goals and connect you with our VA School Certifying Officials to determine if you are eligible and help you apply.

Once your benefits have been approved, you can use them towards one of Asher’s eligible career training programs. At Asher, VRRAP benefits are approved for the following Information Technology career programs; Computer and Network Technician, Network Support SpecialistPC Support Specialist, PC Technician, Tech Support Specialist, and the following medical and business programs; Medical Records Specialist & Office Administration.
